BREAKING NEWS: Sabathia to become a Brewer

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel’s Tom Haudricourt is reporting that the Brewers have reached a deal to obtain Cleveland Indians’ ace C.C. Sabathia. Specifics are pending, but it is widely believed that Brewers’ first-round draft pick Matt Laporta, and outfielder at AA Huntsville, is one of between two and four prospects being sent to the Indians.
Now Ned Yost and Doug Melvin will have to make the hard decision of which starter to replace in the rotation–odds on favorites are Dave Bush, who was sent to the minors earlier this year but recalled once Yovani Gallardo became injured for the season, or Seth McClung, the reliever-turned-starter added to the rotation in late May in place of a struggling Carlos Villanueva.
This comes on the heels of the Brewers’ sweep of the Pirates with an 11-6 win on Sunday afternoon, a game in which #2 starter Jeff Suppan struggled, allowing 4 ER’s in the top of the 2nd inning, and another 2 ER’s in the top of the 3rd inning before handing the ball over to Mitch Stetter. Ironically, Stetter, who earned the win Sunday, is the most likely to be returned to AAA Nashville to make room for Sabathia on the roster.
Ryan Braun and Ben Sheets were also named to the NL All-Star team, with Corey Hart one of five players in contention for the fans’ final spot on the roster.
