OTF: Morning Boxscores for 4/11/12

It was double your pleasure for the Brew Crew at Wrigley Field and the farm clubs had a bit of success of their own on Tuesday night and I stress a bit of success as the margin of victory couldn’t be much lower.

The Brevard County Manatees continued their hot start to the season with another one run victory, this time taking down Lakeland 4-3.  It was Taylor Jungmann’s second professional start and while it wasn’t the awesome line he had in his first game he managed to pull out a win to improve to 2-0 in his professional career.

The rest of the teams weren’t so lucky, especially the double-A Huntsville Stars who lost a marathon 11 inning 8-7 game to start their series with the Birmingham Barons.

It was an absolutely crazy game that saw Huntsville lead by three runs in both the top of the 4th and 5th innings, only to see the Barons score two and three runs in the bottom half of each inning to tie the game at 5-5 after five complete innings.  It remained scoreless until the 11th inning when the Stars scored 2 runs at the top of the inning to go up 7-5.  However a 1 out, 2 run walk off double did in Huntsville in the bottom of the inning showing that the Stars just didn’t want to win this game with their pitching.  The loss dropped the Stars record to just 2-4.

Low-A Wisconsin lost a 5-1 decision to the Burlington Bees and moved to 2-3 on the season.  The Timber Rattlers managed to eek out a whole two hits in the loss and didn’t score until the 7th inning.  Today will be the rubber match in this series before the Timber Rattlers return home for a four game set with Peoria the rest of the week.

The slow start to the season for the Nashville Sounds continued to rear it’s ugly head again last night as they dropped the second straight game to the Oklahoma City RedHawks by a 5-1 score.

Scooter

Player of the Day: Scooter Gennett – (Huntsville Stars) This is a first for the OTL report – the Player of the Day doesn’t go to a player on a winning team.  But Gennett’s 3-for-6 performance with no strikeouts, a double, and a run scored were about as good as it got last night.

All said it wasn’t the brightest of days in the Brewers minor league sytem, so let’s take a look at the damage.
